What Is Broforce?

Broforce is a side-scrolling run 'n' gun shooter that wears its love for 1980s and '90s action movies on its sleeveless sleeve. Every playable "bro" is a thinly veiled parody of a famous action hero, and each one drops in with a unique primary weapon and a special attack. You start each level by parachuting in, and from that moment it's pure chaos — explosions, flying limbs, collapsing terrain, and more explosions.

Our Hands-On Experience

After downloading and extracting the pre-installed folder, we launched the game directly from Broforce.exe inside the game directory — no installer wizard, no launcher overlay. Startup was quick, and we were in the main menu within a few seconds on a standard SSD.

I noticed right away how tight the controls feel. Movement is snappy, the jump arc is predictable, and the melee attack doubles as a tool for breaking through walls when you're low on ammo. The screen shakes constantly with explosions, which is part of the charm, but if you're sensitive to flashing visuals you may want to tone down the chaos by playing solo first.

Our team found the co-op mode to be where Broforce truly shines. With four players on screen, friendly fire is a constant threat — you will absolutely blow up your friends by accident, and that's the point. The competitive modes are a fun diversion, though the campaign is the main draw.

Where it falls short: the level design can feel repetitive after a few hours, and the difficulty spikes are uneven — some stages are a breeze while others will send you back to the checkpoint repeatedly. The humor is deliberately over-the-top and won't land with everyone. And because the build hasn't been updated since late 2023, don't expect new content beyond what's already in v3148.
