Is Rust completely free?

The download offered here is free and pre-installed at Build 25903346. Rust is a paid game on Steam, so if you want to support the developers, purchasing it there is the recommended route.

What version is this Rust download?

This package is Build 25903346, updated October 15, 2026. The in-game version status panel confirmed it matched the latest Steam build from October 13, 2026 during our testing.

How big is the Rust download?

The package is 32.7 GB. We recommend having at least 40 GB of free space on the target drive to account for extraction and temporary files.

Can I play Rust online with this download?

Online play depends on server availability. In our testing, connecting through the Launcher.exe Steam prompt worked, though the server browser occasionally showed "No servers found" on first launch until the client was restarted.

The game says it's not connected to Steam. How do I fix it?

Launch the game through Launcher.exe from the game folder rather than the raw .exe, connect your Steam account when prompted, and run the game as administrator. That resolved the connection message on our test machines.

Why does extraction fail with 'unknown method' errors?

That usually means your archiver is outdated. Update 7-Zip or WinRAR to the latest version, extract into a folder excluded from antivirus scanning, and try again.
